You're paying a premium for storage and the M4, and the rest of the package has to keep up.

If you absolutely need 1TB of local storage on a tablet, this is one of your only options and the price is what it is. But for most people, this config is overkill. The 256GB model saves you a chunk of change and gets you the same M4 speed. Unless you're a mobile videographer or someone who refuses to rely on the cloud, the value proposition crumbles fast.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra spanks the Air in screen quality with its massive OLED and has better battery life, but its processor can't touch the M4 for sustained creative work. Then there's the Microsoft Surface Pro: it's a real Windows computer with full desktop apps, which makes it a better pick if you need a laptop replacement. The iPad Air is the middle ground, pure tablet excellence for creative pros who live in iPadOS, but it's not a laptop and it's not the media consumption king.

If you're looking for a media consumption tablet with an amazing screen and all-day battery, this isn't it. Get the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra instead for its OLED and longevity. And if you want an actual laptop replacement, the Surface Pro with Windows will serve you better.

Get the 1TB iPad Air M4 only if you have a very specific need for that much local storage and you already know you'll use it. For everyone else, step down to a smaller capacity or look at the iPad Pro if you want the best display. The M4 chip is phenomenal, but this particular configuration is a specialist tool, not the default recommendation.
