Viltrox VILTROX 56mm F1.7 E-Mount APS-C STM Lightweight Review
The Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 packs pro-level autofocus into a tiny, affordable package. It's a fantastic tool for portraits, but its optical performance is just average.
Overview
The Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 is a lightweight, fast prime lens for Sony APS-C cameras. It's built for speed, with a 96th percentile autofocus system that locks onto eyes and faces almost instantly.
It's a specialist lens. The 56mm focal length gives you an 84mm full-frame equivalent, which is perfect for portraits, street shots, or even some wildlife. But don't expect it to be your walk-around lens for everything.
Performance
This lens is all about autofocus and low-light capability. The STM motor is quiet and fast, hitting that 96th percentile mark. Pair that with the bright f/1.7 aperture, and you've got a tool that works great in dim settings. The stabilization is solid too, sitting in the 88th percentile. Just know its optical performance is average, ranking in the 34th percentile, and its close-focus ability is limited at 0.55 meters.

Value & Pricing
At around $180, this lens is a steal for what it does best. You're getting pro-level autofocus performance and a useful focal length for a fraction of the cost of first-party glass. If your main needs are portraits, street photography, or anything where subject tracking is key, it's fantastic value. Just don't buy it expecting it to be your only lens.
vs Competition
Compared to the Viltrox 35mm f/1.7, this 56mm is tighter and better for isolating subjects, but the 35mm is more versatile for general use. Against something like the Meike 55mm f/1.8, you're trading some optical quality for much better autofocus and stabilization. And next to a zoom like the Panasonic 14-140mm, you lose all flexibility but gain a much brighter aperture and faster focusing. It's a trade-off.
