The MSI Raider 18 HX is a desktop replacement king with a best-in-class screen and monster specs. It's incredibly fast but also incredibly heavy and expensive. Worth it only if you need the absolute most powerful laptop money can buy and don't plan to move it much.

The MSI Raider 18 HX is a monster. It's packing the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX and an RTX 5090 laptop GPU, backed by 64GB of RAM and a massive 4TB SSD. This isn't a subtle machine, it's a desktop replacement that wants you to know it.

And that 18-inch Mini-LED screen is stunning. The 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate make everything look incredible, from games to creative work. But at nearly 8 pounds, you're not tossing this in a backpack for a casual coffee shop trip.

This thing is fast. The CPU and GPU are both in the top 10% of what's out there, so it chews through 3D rendering, video exports, and maxed-out games without breaking a sweat. The 4TB SSD is basically the best you can get right now for speed and capacity. The only real performance trade-off is the battery, which, like most machines this powerful, won't last long when you're pushing it. It's built for the wall outlet.

Look, at $6,500 to $6,700, this is a huge investment. You're paying for the absolute peak of mobile hardware. For that price, you get a screen and storage setup that are the best on the market, and performance that's a standout. If you need this much power in a laptop form factor and money isn't the main object, it's worth it. Shop around, though, as prices vary by about $200 across different retailers.

This sits in a different league than slim powerhouses like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 or the Apple MacBook Pro. Those are for people who need power and portability. The Raider 18 HX is for people who need maximum power and accept a desktop-like experience. Compared to other 18-inch beasts, it wins on screen quality and sheer spec sheet, but you're trading any semblance of mobility for it. The HP OMEN Transcend 14, for example, gives you a killer 3K screen in a much more manageable package, but with less raw GPU grunt.

If you need to carry your laptop to class, work, or a cafe regularly, look elsewhere. At 3.6kg (nearly 8 lbs) and with a huge 18-inch footprint, it's one of the least portable laptops we've seen. Also, skip it if your budget is under $5k, as there are plenty of powerful options that cost significantly less.

Buy this if you're a professional creator or a hardcore gamer who needs a no-compromise, desktop-level workstation that can, technically, be moved. The screen and storage alone justify it for video editors or 3D artists. For everyone else, especially students or frequent travelers, the size and weight are massive deal-breakers.
