The 30-Second Version
A burst speed freak and ProRes powerhouse that runs circles around mirrorless cameras in raw video, but only if you can live without autofocus or stabilization.
Overview
The Kinefinity MAVO mark2 is a purpose-built cinema camera that doesn't pretend to be a hybrid. It's all about raw video firepower. If you've been looking at mirrorless cameras with envy for their ProRes internal recording, the MAVO mark2 one-ups them with 6K ProRes 4444 XQ at absurd frame rates. It's a tank, it's manual, and it's glorious for the right person. But make no mistake, this is not a run-and-gun vlogging tool. It demands you know how to pull focus and hold a rig steady because it offers zero help with either.
Performance
We expected decent video, but the burst speeds knocked us sideways. 96fps mechanical burst is a spec usually reserved for expensive sports cameras, yet here it is on a cine body. In our database, that's the absolute best right now. The 6K footage is clean with the filmic ProRes codecs we love to see. What surprised us, though, is how poor the battery life is compared to mirrorless rivals. And while the sensor is full-frame, its overall quality is middle of the pack, not the class-leading light sponge we'd hoped for at this price.

Value & Pricing
The price spread is wild, from $4200 to nearly $11,000. If you can find it at the lower end, the Pro Pack is a solid deal considering you get a 7" monitor, OLED EVF, cage, and two 1TB SSDs. At nearly $11K, you're being ripped off. Shop around. The sub-$4500 price point makes this a compelling alternative to a tricked-out mirrorless rig that still can't match the internal codecs.
vs Competition
Stacked against hybrid cameras like the Sony a1 II or Canon EOS R6 Mark III, the MAVO mark2 is in a different league for video purists. Those cameras offer class-leading autofocus and stabilization, which this Kinefinity completely lacks. But they can't touch the internal ProRes 4444 or the 112fps electronic shutter. The Panasonic S5IIX comes closest with its raw video output, but still needs an external recorder. For filmmakers who don't need stills at all, the MAVO mark2 is a focused tool. For everyone else, a mirrorless hybrid is far more practical.

Common Questions
Q: Does it take still photos?
Technically yes, but you'd never buy this for stills. The burst speeds are there, but the handling, menus, and lack of AF make it a clumsy photo camera. Stick to a dedicated stills body.
Q: Can I vlog with it?
Absolutely not. It's heavy, has no stabilization, no flip screen, and terrible autofocus. Get a Sony ZV-E1 or a Canon EOS R6 Mark III for vlogging. This is a cinema camera that demands a crew.
Q: What mount does it use?
It uses KineMOUNT, which is adaptable to PL, EF, and others. It's not a native mirrorless mount, so plan your lens kit accordingly. The included KineMOUNT in the Pro Pack gives you flexibility.
Who Should Skip This
If you're a solo shooter or content creator who relies on face-tracking autofocus and in-body image stabilization, skip this immediately. Go get a Sony FX3 or Panasonic S5IIX. They'll make your life infinitely easier. This camera is for controlled sets with a crew.
Verdict
The Kinefinity MAVO mark2 is a brilliant, niche camera for indie filmmakers who prioritize image quality and frame rates over convenience. If you're building a cinema rig with a follow focus and a gimbal, you'll love it. For anyone else, especially solo shooters who rely on autofocus and stabilization, this is a rough sell. It's not versatile, it's not forgiving, but it delivers where it counts.
