Das Vanquisher EX-8 ist kein Tablet, das man sich einfach so fürs Sofa kauft. Es ist ein Werkzeug, und zwar eines, das nach Baustelle, Wald und Regen schreit. Mit IP65-Zertifizierung, LTE, GPS und einem hellen 550-Nits-Display ist es für den harten Außeneinsatz gebaut. Wer tagtäglich im Feld Daten erfasst, Maschinen ausliest oder Karten erstellt, findet hier einen Partner, der auch mal einen Sturz verzeiht.
Allerdings merkt man sofort, dass die Hardware aus einer anderen Liga kommt als bei aktuellen Consumer-Tablets. Der Preis ist eine Wissenschaft für sich: Die Spanne reicht von 650 Dollar bis über 189.000 Dollar, weil manche Händler offenbar Mondpreise aufrufen. Der beste reale Kurs liegt derzeit bei rund 650 Dollar und macht das EX-8 zu einem der günstigsten vollwertigen Outdoor-Tablets mit Windows. Für diesen Betrag bekommt man die ganze Robustheit, LTE und das spezielle Betriebssystem, was bei Konkurrenten wie Panasonic oder Getac schnell das Dreifache kostet.
Dafür muss man aber mit massiven Leistungskompromissen leben. Ein Apple iPad Pro oder Microsoft Surface Pro ist für dieselbe Summe in allen Benchmarks meilenweit voraus, hat bessere Displays und mehr Speicher. Wer hauptsächlich E-Mails checkt und Notizen macht, bekommt für dasselbe Geld leichtere und schnellere Tablets mit besserem Bildschirm.

Für Vermessungsteams, Servicetechniker und alle, die ein kleines, zähes Windows-Gerät für spezialisierte Software im Freien suchen, ist das EX-8 eine der wenigen bezahlbaren Optionen. Es läuft mit der Firmen-IT dank Windows IoT problemlos im Verbund, und die Funkausstattung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Wer seinen Tag mit Kartierungen, Formularen und Maschinenauslesen verbringt, wird hier zufrieden sein.
Für alles andere ist es schlicht das falsche Produkt. Medienkonsum, Office-Pakete mit vielen Fenstern oder gar leichte Bildbearbeitung sind eine Qual. Selbst eine günstigere Alternative wie das Lenovo Idea Tab Pro mit Android wäre da dreimal so schnell. Meine klare Empfehlung: Nur kaufen, wenn der Job wirklich nach einem Panzer im Taschenformat verlangt und jeder Tag ohne LTE und IP65 ein Problem ist.
