The Mac mini M2 is a brilliant little desktop, but this specific configuration is a hard pass. 8GB of unified memory in 2025 is simply not enough, and the oddball storage combo (512GB SSD plus a 256GB HDD) feels like a parts-bin special. It's like buying a sports car with a governor limit, you'll hit the wall way too soon. If you love everything else about the mini, and you should, just skip this model and grab the 16GB version.

The M2 chip itself is a joy. It launches apps instantly, handles 20 Safari tabs without a hiccup, and chews through office work like nothing. What surprised us is how well the integrated GPU holds up for non-gaming tasks, 4K video playback and light photo editing in Pixelmator are perfectly smooth. But the moment you push beyond that, the 8GB RAM starts to choke. If you need Windows for work or want to game at all, just get a compact gaming desktop like the Lenovo Legion Tower 5i, it'll smoke this mini in every performance metric that matters for those tasks.

The Mac mini M2 is wonderful. This configuration is not. Buy the one with 16GB of RAM and skip the HDD nonsense. You'll thank yourself in two years when you're not constantly force-quitting apps or deleting files to free up memory. If you absolutely must buy a machine at this price right now, grab a Windows alternative, but honestly, just save a bit more and get the good Mac mini.
