Overzicht
De HOTWAV R7 R7 is precies het soort tablet waar je waarschijnlijk nog nooit van hebt gehoord, totdat je iets nodig hebt dat tegen een stootje kan. Voor ergens tussen de €200 en €250 krijg je een 10,1-inch Android 13 tablet die vooral uitblinkt in dingen die de meeste tablets niet kunnen: vallen overleven, onder water werken en wekenlang meegaan op één lading. Wij hebben 'm getest, door onze database gehaald en eerlijk gezegd: als robuuste werkpartner voor buiten is dit een serieuze optie. Hij richt zich duidelijk op bouwvakkers, veldwerkers en outdoor fanaten die niet elke dag naar een stopcontact willen zoeken. De combinatie van een 15600mAh batterij, IP68/IP69K certificering en 4G maakt hem een mobiel werkpaard, al moet je wel tegen het gewicht van bijna anderhalve kilo kunnen.
Prestaties
Onder de motorkap draait een Unisoc T606 octa-core processor met 6GB echt RAM en nog eens 6GB virtueel geheugen. Multitasken met meerdere apps tegelijk gaat net, maar voelt soms stroperig. De 256GB opslag is uit te breiden tot 2TB, dus aan ruimte geen gebrek. Benchmarkcijfers hebben we niet los, maar in de praktijk merk je dat dit geen snelheidsmonster is: het is functioneel, geen Ferrari.

Voor een prijs die schommelt tussen de $205 en $267, is de HOTWAV R7 een koopje als je kijkt naar wat je aan robuustheid en batterijduur krijgt. Je betaalt namelijk niet voor een high-end scherm of razendsnelle processor, maar voor een device dat natte werkomstandigheden en ruwe behandeling overleeft. Veel duurdere rugged tablets zoals de Samsung Galaxy Tab Active-serie bieden vergelijkbare certificeringen, maar missen vaak deze monsterbatterij. Als je geen IP68 nodig hebt, zijn er voor hetzelfde geld veel snellere en scherpere tablets zoals de Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, maar die overleven geen val van de steiger. Je betaalt dus vooral voor gemoedsrust en een accu die je niet in de steek laat.
Vergeleken met de concurrentie
Leg de R7 naast een Apple iPad Air M4 en het verschil in snelheid en schermkwaliteit is bijna lachwekkend groot. Die iPad tovert een superieur 11-inch Liquid Retina scherm voor en draait alles soepel, maar kost minstens drie keer zoveel en kan niet tegen water of een flinke val. Ook de Microsoft Surface Pro 11th Edition en Lenovo Idea Tab Pro blazen de R7 op prestaties en scherm omver, alleen zijn dat dunne, kwetsbare apparaten. Binnen het rugged segment is de concurrentie dunner gezaaid: een Oukitel RT8 biedt een iets betere schermresolutie, maar de R7 wint het op batterijduur. Kortom, als je een tablet zoekt die een werkdag in de regen overleeft en daarna nog een telefoon kan opladen via OTG, dan is dit je beste optie onder de €300.
