Works great in astrophotography, I got some great shots of the recent lunar eclipse. As far as working with a tripod a geared tripod head is a must to keep the moon, planets and stars in the frame. The VR works great even in the longer focal lengths hand held. Can't wait to try it on some wildlife photography. Reach for the stars.
