Se state cercando un portatile gaming che non faccia compromessi, l'ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 è praticamente la risposta definitiva. Dentro c'è un Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX e una NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 con 24GB di VRAM, componenti che fino a poco tempo fa erano impensabili in un portatile da 16 pollici. È pensato per chi vuole giocare in QHD a 240 fps, fare rendering 3D o machine learning senza dover per forza accendere un desktop ingombrante. Il display è un Mini-LED da 1200 nits con 2000 zone di dimming, copertura 100% DCI-P3 e frequenza di 240Hz. Nella nostra classifica, è uno degli schermi migliori che abbiamo mai testato su un portatile. Neri profondi, colori brillanti, e quella fluidità che fa la differenza nei giochi competitivi. Non è esagerato dire che la qualità visiva è quasi da monitor professionale. Ma c'è un prezzo da pagare, letteralmente e metaforicamente: il peso è di 2,85kg e le dimensioni lo rendono poco pratico da portare in giro. La batteria da 90Wh, sotto carico, dura quanto un caffè al bar. E il costo, tra i 4200 e i 6300 dollari a seconda del rivenditore, non è certo per tutte le tasche. Insomma, è un mostro di potenza, ma va preso con consapevolezza.
Prestazioni
Parliamo di numeri. Il processore si piazza nel 97esimo percentile, praticamente il meglio che si possa avere oggi su un laptop. Nei nostri benchmark multi-thread, stacca la maggior parte dei concorrenti, anche workstation ben più costose. La RTX 5090 mobile, con 175W di TGP e fino a 255W totali in modalità manuale, macina qualsiasi gioco AAA in QHD ultra senza sudare, spesso sopra i 100 fps anche con ray tracing al massimo. Lo storage PCIe 4.0 da 2TB tocca i 7000MB/s, il 94esimo percentile: caricamenti fulminei e spazio per un bel po' di giochi. I 32GB di RAM DDR5 sono più che sufficienti per il gaming, ma se fate editing video 4K o macchine virtuali potreste voler farci un pensierino all'upgrade a 64GB. L'unico neo, se così vogliamo chiamarlo, è che le temperature salgono parecchio sotto stress, e le ventole si fanno sentire. Con le cuffie non è un problema, ma in una stanza silenziosa potreste attirare qualche sguardo.

Guardando alle alternative, l'Apple MacBook Pro con M4 Max è il rivale più diretto per i professionisti creativi: offre una gestione termica migliore, autonomia da 10 ore reali e prestazioni in editing video spaventose. Però, sul gaming rimane indietro: la RTX 5090 del SCAR 16 è su un altro pianeta quando si tratta di ray tracing e compatibilità con i giochi Windows. Se fate solo grafica e produzione musicale, il Mac potrebbe essere più azzeccato. Il Lenovo Legion Pro 7i è forse il competitor più agguerrito in ambito Windows, monta configurazioni simili ma tende a costare un po' meno e ha un design più sobrio. La differenza più evidente è nel display: il Mini-LED dell'ASUS è superiore per luminosità e contrasto. Se il budget è una priorità, Lenovo può farvi risparmiare senza rinunciare troppo alle prestazioni. MSI Prestige e HP ZBook sono invece orientati a portabilità e produttività, ma non reggono il confronto come gaming machine pure.
