The TCL QM7K is a TV that tries to punch above its weight class, and it mostly succeeds. The one thing to know is this: it's a gaming-first powerhouse with a 144Hz panel and a ton of dimming zones, but its overall picture quality and audio are middle-of-the-pack. If you're a console or PC gamer who wants a big, bright screen for HDR games, this is a compelling option. For everyone else, especially movie lovers, the competition gets interesting.

The gaming performance surprised us. With a score in the 88th percentile, it's one of the best on the market for fast-paced action. The 144Hz refresh rate and those 2500 dimming zones make a real difference in keeping motion clear and highlights bright. What didn't surprise us was the audio, which sits in the disappointing 31st percentile. The Bang & Olufsen branding doesn't translate to a standout sound experience.

At around $1300, it's a decent value if gaming is your top priority. You're getting high-end gaming specs at a mid-range price. But if you want the best all-around picture, you're not getting your money's worth.

For pure picture quality, the LG OLED evo C5 is the better choice if you watch in a darker room. Its OLED panel delivers perfect blacks and infinite contrast, something this Mini-LED can't match. The Samsung Neo QLED QN800D is a more direct competitor in the bright, Mini-LED space, often with better processing and audio, but it usually costs more. And the Hisense U6 Series is a budget alternative that gets you into Mini-LED tech for less money, though with fewer dimming zones and lower refresh rates.

If you're looking for the best possible movie-watching experience with deep blacks and rich colors, this isn't it. Go get an LG OLED instead. Also skip it if you want a TV with proven, widespread user satisfaction; this model is too new and unvetted.

We recommend the TCL QM7K specifically for gamers who want a large, bright, high-refresh-rate screen and don't mind average audio. It's a focused tool. For a living room TV where movies, sports, and general viewing matter more, look at the LG OLED or the higher-end Samsung Mini-LEDs. This TCL is good at one thing, not great at everything.
