TTArtisan AF 56mm f/1.8 Review

The TTArtisan AF 56mm f/1.8 is a budget-friendly portrait prime for Fuji shooters. It gives you that classic 85mm equivalent look in a tiny, 227-gram package. It's not trying to be a do-it-all lens, and that's fine. It's built for one job: taking nice photos of people.

Image quality is solid for the price. The bokeh lands in the 80th percentile, so your backgrounds will look smooth and creamy. Sharpness is decent in the center, especially if you stop down a bit. The autofocus is its main weakness, sitting in the 47th percentile. It's not the fastest or most reliable, so you might miss some quick shots. And there's no stabilization, so you'll need good light or steady hands.

At $129, it's hard to complain. You're getting a metal-bodied lens with decent optics and autofocus. It's not perfect, but it costs a fraction of what Fuji's own 56mm f/1.2 does. If you want to try a portrait prime without a huge investment, this is a fantastic way in.

Stack it up against the Viltrox 33mm f/1.4 or Fuji's own 50mm f/2. The Viltrox is more versatile and has much better autofocus, but it's bigger and more expensive. Fuji's 50mm f/2 is sharper, faster focusing, and weather-sealed, but it's also more than double the price and has a slower aperture. This TTArtisan wins on size, price, and that specific f/1.8 look, but you give up speed and reliability.

Buy this if you're a Fuji shooter who wants a tiny, cheap, and fun portrait lens. It's perfect for casual portraits and street photography where you have time to focus. Don't buy it if you need fast, reliable autofocus for kids or pets, or if you want a lens for video.
