7Artisans Photoelectric 25mm f/0.95 Review

The 7Artisans 25mm f/0.95 is a one-trick pony, but man, what a trick. This lens is all about that ultra-shallow depth of field, letting you turn any scene into a creamy, dreamy portrait. Forget autofocus and weather sealing, because you're buying this for one reason: to shoot at f/0.95.

The bokeh is in the 100th percentile, and you can feel it. The out-of-focus areas are ridiculously smooth, which is great because you'll be manually focusing a lot. The optical quality is surprisingly decent for the price, landing in the 71st percentile, but don't expect Fujifilm-level sharpness wide open.

At $215, it's a steal if you want to play with an extreme aperture. You're not paying for convenience, you're paying for a specific, dramatic look that's hard to get anywhere else near this price.

The Viltrox 35mm f/1.7 is its direct competitor, offering autofocus and a lighter build for a similar price, but you lose that magical f/0.95 look. The Fujifilm 23mm f/2 is a better all-around lens with autofocus and weather sealing, but it costs more and can't touch the background blur. Choose the 7Artisans for pure bokeh artistry, or the Viltrox for a more practical, everyday fast prime.
