Sigma BF BF Black
A 24.6MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor and a radically simple unibody design define the Sigma BF, capturing 6K video with hybrid phase/contrast AF in a compact 388g body that forgoes stabilization. Unique haptic-responsive controls and 230GB of internal storage streamline operation, while 13 color modes and a 3.1-inch touchscreen prioritize a tactile, menu-free experience. This camera suits still photographers and design-focused shooters who value minimalist handling and a distraction-free interface over extended battery life or video-centric features.

The 30-Second Version
The Sigma BF takes beautiful photos and has the most intuitive interface we have ever tested, but the lack of a viewfinder and the dreadful battery life make it a deeply polarizing camera. It is a niche gem for design lovers and a frustrating compromise for everyone else.

The proof
Performance
The 24.6MP full-frame sensor is a solid mid-pack performer in our database, right around the 57th percentile. Image quality is excellent in good light, and the low-light chops hold up at high ISOs, but you will miss the stabilization when the sun dips. Autofocus is fast and accurate for both people and pets, landing in the 63rd percentile, which is fine for static subjects but struggles to keep up with seriously fast action. Video is a pleasant surprise: 6K up to 30fps with Log capture puts it well above average, though the lack of 4K 60fps will bug hybrid shooters. And then there is the battery life. At 260 shots per charge, it sits in the 2nd percentile. That is not a typo. If you take this out for a full day, pack a power bank or three.

vs Competition
Stacked against powerhouses like the Sony Alpha a1 II or Nikon Z9, the Sigma BF looks like a toy, but that is sort of the point. Those cameras do everything at blazing speed, while the BF asks you to slow down. The Canon EOS R6 Mark III and Panasonic LUMIX S5IIX both pack IBIS, superior viewfinders, and longer battery life for similar money. Even the Fujifilm X-H2S, with its smaller APS-C sensor, runs circles around the BF for video frame rates and burst shooting. If you need to nail the shot under pressure, any of those are safer bets. The BF is for the moments between the chaos.

Price
Value & Pricing
Pricing is all over the place, with a spread from $2000 to nearly $3000 across different vendors. At the lower end, the BF is an intriguing second camera for someone who already owns a capable main body. At the top, you are paying a serious premium for aesthetics over function. There is no store with a standout best deal, so shopping around is essential. For the money, you could pick up a far more capable hybrid, but none of them will feel like this does in your hand.

Overview
The Sigma BF is a camera that dares you to care less about specs and more about the act of taking a photo. Its unibody aluminum shell feels more like a premium gadget than a traditional camera, and the stripped-down controls are genuinely refreshing. There is no memory card slot, just 230GB of built-in storage, and the menu system is so clean you could hand this to someone who's never held a camera and they'd figure it out in minutes. But that minimalist philosophy comes with a long list of things you don't get, starting with a viewfinder.
Common Questions
Q: Can I record video to an external SSD via the USB-C port?
No, the USB-C port is for charging and data transfer only. You cannot record directly to an external drive right now.
Q: Does the Sigma BF take standard memory cards?
No, it relies entirely on the built-in 230GB of internal storage. There is no card slot.
Q: Is a lens included in the box?
No, the camera body is sold without a kit lens, but it works with any L-Mount lens from Sigma, Panasonic, and Leica.
Who Should Skip This
Skip the BF if you shoot outdoors in bright light, need to go all day away from a charger, or rely on a viewfinder to compose. Also give it a hard pass if you need 4K 60fps, weather sealing, or in-body stabilization. It is a fair-weather companion, not a workhorse.
Verdict
Buy the Sigma BF if you are a photography purist who values simplicity, design, and the feel of a camera more than a checklist of features. It is a brilliant everyday carry camera that makes you want to shoot, provided you can live without a viewfinder and remember to charge it constantly. For anyone who needs reliable stabilization, weather sealing, or long battery life, this will drive you up a wall.
