The Xenarc RT71-PRO is a rugged beast with an incredible battery that leads the pack in our tests. It's perfect for industrial work sites but held back by a low-res 720p screen and slow storage. For field use, it's worth the money; for anyone else, it's a pass.

The Xenarc RT71-PRO is a rugged, IP67-rated tablet that's built like a brick outhouse. It's designed for warehouses, construction sites, and anywhere a typical iPad would shatter on impact. The 1200-nit display burns through direct sunlight, the 10,000mAh battery just won't die, and you get 4G LTE and NFC for scanning and connectivity right out of the box.

But underneath all that armor, it's still running a 720p screen on a MediaTek chip in 2025. The eMMC storage is sluggish, and Android 13 feels slightly hobbled. At $704 to $957, it's priced like a premium gadget but performs like something from a few years back unless you absolutely need the military-grade durability.

The octa-core MediaTek chip and 8GB of RAM handle field apps, barcode scanning, and basic multitasking just fine—we didn't see any crashes under normal workloads. In our database, the CPU and GPU both land in the 82nd–83rd percentile among all tablets, which is surprisingly strong for a rugged device. But that 7-inch, 1280x720 screen sits in the bottom 14th percentile. Text looks soft, and you'll be pinching to zoom constantly. Storage is middle-of-the-pack eMMC, so app installs and file transfers feel slow. The standout is the battery: 88th percentile, meaning only a handful of tablets last longer on a charge.

The RT71-PRO spans from $704 to $957 depending on the vendor, which is a tricky range. For a rugged tablet with 4G, IP67, and a sunlight-readable screen, that's actually not bad—comparable Panasonic Toughpads often cost more. But stack it against a consumer Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra or even an iPad Pro, and the value evaporates. You're paying a hefty premium for durability specs that most people will never use. If you need an industrial tool, it earns its keep. If you don't, it's overpriced.

Comparing the RT71-PRO to an iPad Pro M5 or Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra feels like pitting a Humvee against a Formula 1 car. The Apple and Samsung tablets obliterate it in screen quality, processing power, and app selection—but they'll shatter on a concrete floor. The Microsoft Surface Pro runs full Windows but lacks any serious dust or water resistance. The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro and Lenovo Idea Tab Pro offer gorgeous high-res screens at lower prices, yet they're fragile. The Xenarc wins when the job is survival, but loses badly in every other category.

If you want a tablet for drawing, photo editing, or even just reading PDFs comfortably, skip this. The low-res screen and sluggish eMMC storage will bug you constantly. And at 660g, it's a chore to hold in one hand for any casual scrolling.

This tablet is for field service crews, logistics managers, and anyone who works in the elements. If your tablet lives in a mounting bracket on a forklift or gets tossed into a tool bag, the RT71-PRO's battery life and toughness make it a no-brainer. If you're sitting at a desk or on a couch, buy something with a sharper screen and a case—you'll be happier.
