Rokinon Series II 14mm f/2.8 Review
The Samyang 14mm f/2.8 delivers pro-level sharpness at a budget price, but you give up autofocus, weather sealing, and any sense of portability.
Overview
The Samyang Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 Series II is a big, heavy, and very specific lens. It's a full-frame ultra-wide prime for Nikon F-mount shooters who need that extreme field of view and a bright f/2.8 aperture without spending a fortune.
Performance
Optically, it's surprisingly sharp for the price, landing in the 84th percentile. That means you get clean, detailed shots from a 14mm perspective. The trade-off is in the handling and features. There's no autofocus, no stabilization, and it's not weather-sealed. The build quality is also in a low percentile, so it feels a bit plasticky for a 640g chunk of glass.

Value & Pricing
At around $379, it's hard to argue with the value if you need this exact focal length. You're getting pro-level sharpness in a very niche package for a fraction of the cost of a Nikon or Sigma equivalent. You just have to accept the major compromises in build and convenience.
Price History
vs Competition
This isn't a do-everything lens like the Panasonic 14-140mm or the Sony 24-240mm. Those zooms are way more versatile for travel. Compared to primes like the Viltrox 35mm f/1.7 or Meike 55mm f/1.8, those offer autofocus and are better for portraits and general use. The Samyang 14mm is a specialist. You buy it for astrophotography, real estate, or dramatic landscapes, and you accept its limitations.

Verdict
Buy this if you're a Nikon shooter on a budget who specifically needs a sharp, ultra-wide prime for tripod-based work like astro or architecture. Avoid it if you need autofocus, plan to hike with it, or want a lens that can do more than one job.
