The LG QNED 80 Series is a smart TV first and a display second. Its webOS platform and connectivity are top-notch, but the picture quality is mediocre. Only consider it if you find it at the very bottom of its price range and value smart features over image fidelity.

The LG QNED 80 Series is a big-screen TV that's all about the smart features. It nails the basics of a modern smart TV with its excellent webOS platform, voice assistants, and solid connectivity. But it's a classic case of a TV that's smarter than it is sharp. The picture quality, frankly, isn't its strong suit, which is a tough sell when that's the main job.

Let's be real: the picture quality is the weak link here. It lands in the 2nd percentile in our database, which means it's near the bottom for overall image performance. The edge-lit backlight and basic local dimming struggle with contrast, so don't expect inky blacks. Skip this TV if you're a cinephile or a gamer. The weak contrast and lack of high refresh rate make it a poor choice for watching movies in a dark room or for serious gaming. Also, if you're comparing specs, anyone considering a Mini-LED TV like the Hisense U6 should buy that instead for a better picture at a similar price.

Buy this TV if you want a huge, easy-to-use smart TV for streaming in a bright room and you don't care about perfect blacks or movie-grade HDR. It's a solid 'dad TV' for YouTube and sports. But if picture quality is your priority, even a little bit, you can do much better for the money.
