Fujifilm Fujinon XF XF23mmF2 R WR Wide-angle Review
The Fujifilm 23mm F2 is a tiny, tough lens with a premium price tag. We'll tell you if it's worth it over the cheaper Viltrox alternative.
Overview
The Fujifilm XF23mmF2 is the lens you buy when you want a tiny, tough, and fast everyday carry for your Fuji camera. It's basically a 35mm full-frame equivalent, which is a classic focal length for street and documentary work. The one thing you need to know is that this lens is all about character and portability, not clinical perfection. It's got a bit of a vintage soul in a modern, weather-sealed body.
Performance
The autofocus performance was a bit of a letdown, landing in the 45th percentile. It's fine for casual shooting, but if you're trying to track a moving subject, you might miss a few shots. On the flip side, the build quality is fantastic, sitting in the 94th percentile. This thing feels solid and can definitely handle some rain or dust, which is a huge plus for a walk-around lens.

Value & Pricing
At $500, it's a tough sell. You're paying a premium for the Fujifilm name and the weather sealing. For pure image quality per dollar, there are better options. But if you absolutely need a tiny, sealed 35mm equivalent for your Fuji, this is basically your only choice.
Price History
vs Competition
The Viltrox 35mm F1.7 is the obvious competitor. It's cheaper, has a slightly wider aperture, and its autofocus is probably in the same ballpark. You give up the weather sealing and the premium build, but you save a lot of cash. The Meike 55mm F1.8 is a different focal length, but it's another third-party option that makes you question the Fuji's price. If you don't need weather sealing, the Viltrox is the smarter buy.

Verdict
Buy this lens if you're a Fuji shooter who values a super compact, weather-sealed kit above all else and you love the 35mm focal length. For everyone else, especially if you're on a budget, look at the Viltrox first. This Fuji lens is a luxury, not a necessity.
