Viltrox VILTROX 25mm F1.7 Air FE Pocket Dispo Lens AF Review
The Viltrox 25mm F1.7 is a niche champion. Its autofocus and stabilization are fantastic for the price, making it a top pick for budget video and macro work, but don't expect an all-around travel lens.
Overview
The Viltrox 25mm F1.7 is a weird little lens that's surprisingly good at a couple of very specific things. It's not a general-purpose walk-around lens, but if you're looking for a lightweight, stabilized prime that's great for close-ups and video, this thing punches way above its price tag. The one thing to know? It's a macro and video specialist, not a travel companion.
Performance
What surprised me was just how good the autofocus and stabilization are. AF lands in the 96th percentile, and it's genuinely quick and quiet, especially for video. The stabilization is in the 87th percentile, which is fantastic for a lens at this price. The optical quality is just okay (34th percentile), so don't expect razor-sharp corner-to-corner perfection, but the center sharpness is solid for the money.

Value & Pricing
At $176, it's a steal if you need its specific strengths. You're getting pro-level autofocus and very good stabilization for less than two hundred bucks. For macro or stabilized video on a budget, it's absolutely worth it.
vs Competition
Compared to the Viltrox 35mm F1.7, this 25mm gives you stabilization and a slightly wider field of view, which is better for video. The 35mm is probably more versatile for everyday shots, though. Against the Meike 55mm F1.8 Pro, you lose some build quality and optical sharpness, but you gain stabilization and a much closer focusing distance for macro. This Viltrox is the niche pick.

Verdict
Buy this lens if you shoot a lot of video or love macro photography and need stabilization on a budget. Its autofocus and stabilization are fantastic for the price. Skip it if you want a sharp, all-purpose travel lens or if build quality is your top priority. It's a specialist, not a generalist.
