The Viltrox 35mm F1.7 is a lightweight, fast prime for Sony APS-C shooters. It's built for speed, with autofocus that lands in the 98th percentile, and it packs stabilization in a tiny 170g body.

For under $180, you get a lens that's sharp where it counts and can create nice background blur. It's clearly aimed at photographers and videographers who value responsiveness and portability over doing everything.

This lens is all about autofocus and stabilization. The STM motor is quick and quiet, making it a solid choice for video or fast-paced street photography. The image stabilization works well, too. Optical performance is good, not great. You get nice bokeh from the f/1.7 aperture, but sharpness and overall rendering are just above average. And as the 19th percentile macro score shows, close-up work is not its thing at all.

The Viltrox Z-mount version is essentially the same lens, so pick based on your camera system.

Buy this if you shoot a lot of video, street, or casual portraits on a Sony APS-C camera and want a fast, reliable, and stabilized lens without spending a ton. Skip it if you need weather sealing, crave the absolute best image quality, or want a lens that can do close-up shots.
