HP Envy 13.3" x360 2-in-1 Review

The HP ENVY x360 is incredibly light and has a massive 1TB SSD, but its older CPU and only 8GB of RAM hold it back. It's a trade-off between portability and power.

Overview

The HP ENVY x360 2-in-1 is a compact, flexible machine with a clear identity. It scores a 94th percentile for compactness, meaning it's lighter and smaller than almost everything else out there. At 1.31kg with a 13.3-inch touchscreen, it's built to be tossed in a bag and used anywhere. The 1TB NVMe SSD is a major highlight, landing in the 78th percentile for storage, which is a ton of space for a laptop this size. It's a solid pick for students and general use, but its scores tell you exactly where it shines and where it struggles.

Performance

Performance is where the trade-offs become clear. The Intel Core i7-1165G7 and 8GB of RAM both sit in the 18th and 10th percentiles, respectively. That means for CPU and memory, it's slower than most other laptops we track. It's fine for web browsing, office apps, and streaming, but don't expect it to handle heavy multitasking or complex software smoothly. The Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics land in the 18th percentile, which explains the 4.5/100 gaming score. This isn't a machine for anything beyond very casual games. The good news is that 1TB NVMe SSD will make the system feel snappy for everyday tasks, even if the core components are a bit dated.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely portable. Its 94th percentile compact score means it's one of the lightest, most bag-friendly 2-in-1s you can get. 93th
  • Huge 1TB SSD. At a 78th percentile for storage, you get exceptional capacity for a laptop this size. 85th
  • Good connectivity. With Thunderbolt and WiFi 6, it scores in the 74th percentile for ports and modern wireless. 78th
  • Flexible 2-in-1 design. The touchscreen and convertible form factor add a lot of utility for note-taking or media consumption.

Cons

  • Weak core specs. The CPU and RAM are both in the bottom 20th percentile, limiting performance for anything demanding. 17th
  • Not for gaming. The integrated GPU is in the 18th percentile, resulting in a 4.5/100 gaming score. 20th
  • Mediocre screen. The 13.3" FHD IPS panel only hits the 29th percentile for screen quality. 21th

Value & Pricing

At $1100, the value proposition is tricky. You're paying a premium for the compact 2-in-1 form factor and the large 1TB SSD. The core performance components, however, are several generations old and rank very low. You can find newer laptops with better CPUs, more RAM, and similar portability for this price, but you might sacrifice the convertible touchscreen or the huge storage drive. It's a niche pick where the specific features (size, storage, flexibility) outweigh the raw performance for you.

vs Competition

Compared directly, the ASUS Zenbook Duo offers a more innovative dual-screen design and likely better performance for a similar price, though it's less of a traditional laptop. The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 will crush it in CPU performance and reliability for business use, but it's not a convertible. The Apple MacBook Pro is in a completely different performance league (and price bracket). If you need a super portable 2-in-1 with tons of storage and can accept the performance limits, the ENVY x360 fits. If you need more power or a better screen, the Zenbook Duo or a base-model modern ultrabook are stronger choices.

Verdict

The HP ENVY x360 is a machine of extremes. It's exceptionally portable and packs a huge 1TB SSD, but its CPU, RAM, and GPU performance are well below average. If your top priorities are light weight, a touchscreen for notes, and never worrying about storage space, and you're okay with just basic performance, it's a reasonable choice. For anyone who needs speed for multitasking, creative work, or even a bit of light gaming, the low percentile scores on core specs are a deal-breaker at this price. Look at more modern ultrabooks or 2-in-1s instead.
