Samsung QN75QN95DAF QN95D 75" Class Smart LED TV 2024 Review

The Samsung QN95D Mini-LED TV delivers a breathtaking HDR picture perfect for movie nights, but its mediocre gaming performance and lack of ports make it a tough sell for anyone with a console.

The 30-Second Version

A brilliant movie-watching TV that fails as a gaming hub. Buy it for the stunning HDR, but plan on adding a soundbar and an HDMI switch.

Overview

The Samsung QN95D is a weird one. It's a high-end Mini-LED TV that absolutely nails HDR performance, landing in the 94th percentile, but then completely fumbles the ball on gaming and connectivity. The one thing to know? This is a fantastic screen for watching movies and streaming shows in a dark room, but if you're a gamer or have a lot of devices to plug in, you'll be disappointed. It feels like Samsung built a race car but forgot to put in a good sound system or enough cup holders.

Performance

What surprised us was the massive gap between its strengths and weaknesses. The HDR brightness and color pop are genuinely top-tier, making movies look incredible. But then you look at the numbers: gaming performance is in the 26th percentile, and connectivity is a dismal 13th. That means slower response times for gamers and not enough HDMI ports for your gear. It's a classic case of a TV being built for one thing (picture quality) at the expense of everything else.

Value & Pricing

Worth it? Only on a steep discount. With prices swinging wildly from $1772 to $3100, your decision hinges entirely on the deal. If you can snag it near the low end of that range and your main goal is cinematic viewing, it's a solid buy. At $3100, it's a rip-off when you consider its glaring flaws. Shop around.

vs Competition

Compared to the LG OLED evo G5, you're trading perfect blacks and better gaming performance for the QN95D's higher peak brightness. The Hisense U6 Series is a much cheaper Mini-LED alternative, but you'll sacrifice some HDR punch and smart features. The real head-scratcher is Samsung's own QN800D 8K model; unless you sit comically close, the 8K is overkill, and this QN95D offers a better value for 4K content. For a pure home theater experience, this Samsung holds up. For a mixed-use family TV, the LG or even a Sony BRAVIA is a more balanced choice.

Common Questions

Q: Is this good for next-gen PS5 or Xbox Series X gaming?

Not really. Its gaming performance scores in the bottom quarter of all TVs we track. You'll get better response times and features on an LG OLED or a dedicated gaming monitor.

Q: How many HDMI ports does it have?

Our data shows connectivity is a major weak point. It likely has only 2 or 3 ports, which isn't enough for a modern setup with a console, soundbar, and streaming box. You'll need a switcher.

Q: Do I need to buy a soundbar?

Almost certainly. The audio scores in the 32nd percentile. The built-in speakers are fine for news, but for movies and music, you'll want external audio.

Who Should Skip This

If you're a gamer, this isn't it. The lag and limited ports will drive you nuts. Go get an LG OLED instead. Also, if your room is super bright or you want a patio TV, look elsewhere—this one scores a 26.9/100 for outdoor use.

Verdict

We recommend the Samsung QN95D with a big, fat asterisk. If your primary use is watching movies and streaming in a controlled lighting environment, and you find it for under $2000, go for it. The picture is fantastic. But if you play video games, have multiple consoles, or want an all-around family TV, there are better, more well-rounded options out there. This is a specialist, not a generalist.
