De zevende generatie Surface Laptop is Microsofts eerste échte poging om ARM serieus te nemen in een premium jasje. Je krijgt een 13,8-inch touchscreen, een Snapdragon X Elite met 12 cores, 16 GB LPDDR5X-geheugen en een 1 TB SSD. Het bouwkwaliteit is zoals we van Surface gewend zijn: strak, licht (1,34 kg) en prettig om mee te werken. De AI-snufjes klinken futuristisch, maar de praktijk is nog wisselend. De grote belofte is razendsnelle productiviteit zonder dat de ventilator overuren draait. Onze database bevestigt dat de CPU tot de absolute top behoort voor dit formaat. Maar zodra je software draait die niet native op ARM draait, kom je in een grijze zone terecht en laten de gebruikerservaringen weinig aan de verbeelding over.
Prestaties
De Snapdragon X Elite is een beest in pure CPU-taken. Cinebench-resultaten zijn indrukwekkend en in het dagelijks werk vlieg je door Office, Teams en Edge alsof het niks is. De NPU is ook geen loze kreet, al moet het gros van de Copilot+-functies nog via updates landen. De geïntegreerde GPU is helaas een ander verhaal. Voor lichte taken en videoplayback is het prima, maar gamen of zware rendering is kansloos. Gebruikers melden daarnaast dat Adobe-software vastloopt of crasht, een direct gevolg van de ARM-emulatie. Voor wie puur in de browser en Microsoft-omgeving zit, voelt het als een raket. Voor de rest voelt het alsof je met remlichten aan rijdt.
