Dell Pro 14" E5470 Review

The 2016 Dell E5470 is a slow, dated business laptop selling for $232. It works for basics, but you can do much better for just a little more money.

Overview

Look, this Dell E5470 is a used business laptop from 2016. That's the one thing you need to know. It's not new, it's not fast by today's standards, and it's absolutely not for gaming. But for $232, it might be a passable machine for basic web browsing, document editing, or as a spare PC for a specific task. Just don't expect it to feel quick or modern.

Performance

Honestly, nothing surprised me in a good way. The 6th-gen Intel Core i7-6600U is old, and its performance lands in the 40th percentile. That means it's slower than most modern laptops, even budget ones. It'll handle basic Windows 10 Pro tasks, but open more than a few browser tabs and you'll feel it start to chug. The integrated graphics are predictably terrible for anything visual, scoring in the bottom 20%.

Value & Pricing

The value is entirely situational. For $232, you get a functional Windows laptop. That's it. It's not a good value if you need performance, a nice screen, or reliability. It's only a value if your budget is rock-solid $250 and you just need something that turns on.

Refurbished US$ 232

vs Competition

Don't even compare this to the MacBook Pro or gaming laptops on the list—that's a different universe. The real question is: should you buy this or a used/refurbished newer model? For a similar price, you can often find an 8th or 10th-gen Intel laptop with much better CPU performance, battery life, and a nicer screen. The ASUS Zenbook Duo is a modern 2-in-1, but it costs ten times more. This Dell is strictly for the absolute bottom of the budget barrel.

Verdict

I can't recommend this for most people. It's too old and too slow. Save up another $100-$150 and buy a used laptop from 2020 or later. You'll get a massively better experience. Only buy this Dell E5470 if $232 is your absolute max, you need a PC tomorrow, and you're okay with very limited performance.
