HP ProBook 14" 440 G11 Review

The HP ProBook 440 G11 has a serious identity crisis, pairing a massive 32GB of RAM with a sluggish Intel 155U CPU. It's built for multitasking, but not for speed.

Overview

This ProBook 440 G11 is a weird one. It's got 32GB of RAM, which is fantastic, but it's paired with a surprisingly weak Intel 155U CPU. It feels like HP built a sports car body and then put a scooter engine inside. The one thing you need to know is this: it's a productivity machine for people who need tons of browser tabs and documents open, but who will never, ever ask it to do anything heavy. It's not a speed demon, but it's a marathon runner for basic office work.

Performance

The performance story is all about the mismatch. That 32GB of DDR5 RAM is in the 81st percentile, which is excellent. You can have dozens of Chrome tabs, Slack, and a spreadsheet open without a hiccup. But then you hit the CPU, which is only in the 38th percentile. The Intel 155U is fine for daily tasks, but it chokes on anything more. Exporting a big PDF or running a complex Excel macro will have you waiting. The integrated Intel Graphics are exactly what you'd expect, landing right at the 50th percentile average, so don't even think about gaming.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 32GB of RAM is overkill in the best way for multitasking. 89th
  • It's light and compact, easy to toss in a bag. 87th
  • Windows 11 Pro is a nice inclusion for business users. 80th
  • Backlit keyboard is a must-have and it's here. 70th

Cons

  • The Intel 155U CPU is a major bottleneck for a machine with this much RAM. 31th
  • The 14-inch screen is dim at 300 nits and just average quality.
  • Battery life from the 56Wh pack is just okay, not great.
  • At over $1500, the value proposition is seriously questionable.

Value & Pricing

Honestly, it's hard to recommend at this price. You're paying a premium for that 32GB of RAM, but the rest of the package is mid-tier at best. For the same money, you could get a laptop with a much faster CPU and 16GB of RAM, which is still plenty for 95% of people. This feels like a spec sheet built to check a box, not to deliver a balanced experience.

vs Competition

Look at the ASUS Zenbook Duo if you want a unique, powerful 2-in-1 in this size. Or, if you're loyal to the business laptop form, a Dell Latitude with a stronger Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7 CPU will run circles around this ProBook for similar cash. The MacBook Pro is in a different league on performance and battery, but you're paying for it and locked into macOS.

Verdict

I can only recommend this to one very specific person: someone whose company is buying it for them, who needs 32GB of RAM for virtual machines or massive datasets, and who is forbidden from buying anything else. For everyone else, especially students or professionals spending their own money, there are better-balanced laptops out there. Skip this and find something where the CPU matches the ambition of the RAM.
