The Lensbaby Velvet 28mm f/2.5 is a weird lens, and that's the whole point. It's a 28mm prime that can focus down to 2 inches for a 1:2 macro shot, and it's built to deliver a soft, glowing look at its widest apertures. You don't buy this for clinical sharpness. You buy it for a specific, dreamy character that's hard to get anywhere else.

At 472 grams, it's a solid chunk of glass. It lands in the 95th percentile for macro capability, which is its standout feature. But its overall score of 65/100 tells you it's a specialist. It's great for portraits and creative close-ups, but it's a terrible travel companion, scoring in the 37th percentile for versatility.
