Apple White 256GB Review
The iPhone 17 has a gorgeous display but disappoints everywhere else. With middling performance, poor battery life, and no 5G, it's a hard pass at $830.
The 30-Second Version
The iPhone 17 is a premium shell with surprisingly mediocre insides. You're better off with last year's model or a competitor.
Overview
The iPhone 17 is a beautifully built phone that feels great in the hand, but it's also a phone that feels a bit stuck in the past. The one thing you need to know? It's a premium-feeling device that's shockingly average where it counts. The display is gorgeous and the Ceramic Shield 2 is tough, but our data shows its performance and camera are just middle-of-the-pack, and the battery life is a genuine weak spot.
Performance
The A19 chip lands in the 51st percentile for performance in our database. That means it's fine for everyday stuff and iOS 26 feels smooth, but it's not the powerhouse you might expect from a new iPhone. It's not slow, but it's not leading the pack either. For a phone at this price, we expected more.

Value & Pricing
At $830, it's not worth it. You're paying a premium for the Apple logo and a great screen, but you're getting mid-tier performance, a weak battery, and last-gen connectivity. There are better values out there.
vs Competition
Look at the Google Pixel 10 or the Samsung Galaxy S26. The Pixel 10 will crush it on camera quality for likely less money, and the Galaxy S26 offers better all-around performance and features. Even last year's iPhone 15, if you can find it unlocked, gives you most of this experience without the weird 4G limitation. The OnePlus 15 is another solid option that'll give you faster charging and better battery life for hundreds less.

Common Questions
Q: Is the iPhone 17 good for gaming?
Not really. Our gaming score for it is only 32.9 out of 100. The A19 chip is fine, but there are much better phones for gaming at this price.
Q: Why is it only 4G?
Your guess is as good as ours. It's a Verizon-specific model, but in 2024, a $830 phone without 5G is hard to justify. It feels like a cost-cutting move in the wrong place.
Q: Should I get the 256GB model?
256GB is the sensible minimum these days, especially with high-res photos. So yes, if you were somehow set on this phone, that's the storage to get.
Who Should Skip This
If you care about battery life, photography, or future-proof connectivity, this isn't it. Go get a Google Pixel 10 or a Samsung Galaxy S26 instead. If you just want a new iPhone, look for a deal on an iPhone 16.
Verdict
We can't recommend the iPhone 17. It's a confusing product that feels like it's missing the point. Unless you are deeply, personally invested in having the absolute latest iPhone design and don't care about specs, skip it. For everyone else, the competition is offering more compelling packages for the money, or even less.
