Meike 10mm f/2 APS-C Manual Focus Review

The Meike 10mm f/2 is a big, heavy, manual-focus prime lens for Fuji X cameras. It's built for one thing: getting super wide shots with a bright aperture. Forget autofocus and portability, this lens is all about that ultra-wide field of view and f/2 light gathering.

It's a specialist tool. With a 15mm equivalent focal length on APS-C, it's incredibly wide. The f/2 aperture is also pretty bright for such a wide lens, which helps in low light. But at over 500 grams and with no autofocus, it's not exactly a walk-around lens.

Optical performance is its strong suit, landing in the 89th percentile. That means images are sharp and contrasty. The bokeh is also surprisingly smooth for a wide-angle, scoring in the 79th percentile. But you have to focus it yourself, and the autofocus score is in the bottom half. There's no stabilization either, so you'll need steady hands or a tripod in slower light. It's sharp, but you work for it.

At $329, it's a bit of a niche purchase. You're paying for the optical quality and the specific combo of 10mm and f/2. If you absolutely need that, it's a fair price. But if you can live with a slower aperture or a bit less width, you might find better value elsewhere. It's not cheap for a manual lens, but the image quality justifies it for the right shooter.

Compared to the Viltrox 35mm f/1.7, you're trading autofocus and a normal field of view for extreme width. The Viltrox is a better all-rounder. Next to the Panasonic 14-140mm zoom, there's no contest on versatility—the Panasonic does everything but has a slow, variable aperture. Against the Meike 55mm f/1.8 Pro, you're choosing between a sharp, fast portrait prime with AF and this wide specialist. This 10mm is for when you need to go wider than a kit zoom can manage, and you need more light than an f/4 lens provides.

Buy this if you're a Fuji shooter who loves ultra-wide landscapes, astrophotography, or tight interior shots and you don't mind manual focus. It's a great tool for that specific job. Don't buy it if you want an everyday lens, need autofocus, or are trying to keep your kit light for travel. It's a specialist, not a generalist.
