Canon EOS M200 Review
The Canon M200 packs a serious autofocus punch in a tiny body, but it cuts corners elsewhere. Find out if its strengths outweigh the missing features.
Overview
The Canon M200 is a compact mirrorless camera that's built for beginners who want to step up from their phone. It packs a 24.1MP APS-C sensor into a tiny body, and the touchscreen flips up for selfies, which is a nice touch. It's got 4K video and some solid modern features, but it's missing a few things pros would want, like in-body stabilization or a viewfinder.
Performance
The autofocus is this camera's secret weapon. It's in the 96th percentile, and the Eye AF is fast and reliable, which is huge for portraits. The 24MP sensor delivers sharp photos, landing in the 85th percentile for image quality. But the video is just okay at 70th percentile, and the lack of stabilization hurts. The battery and burst shooting are middle-of-the-road, so don't expect to shoot sports with it.

Value & Pricing
At around $813, the value proposition is tricky. You're paying a premium for that excellent autofocus and compact form factor. But for that price, you're missing key features like stabilization that competitors include. If your main focus is still photography with great autofocus, it's a solid pick. If you need more for video or a more complete feature set, your money might be better spent elsewhere.
vs Competition
Compared to the Sony a6400, the M200 wins on size and the selfie screen, but the a6400 has a viewfinder, better battery life, and generally stronger video features. Next to the Fujifilm X-S20, the gap is huge. The X-S20 has stabilization, a much better processor, and superior video capabilities, though it's also bigger. The M200's main draw is being the smallest and simplest option with that killer autofocus.

Verdict
Buy this if you're a beginner or a social media shooter who prioritizes a super compact size and absolutely needs the best autofocus for portraits in this form factor. Skip it if you shoot a lot of video, need stabilization, or want an electronic viewfinder. For most people, the competition offers more complete packages for similar money.
