Viltrox VILTROX PRO 75mm f/1.2 E for Sony e-Mount, 75mm Review
The Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 delivers breathtaking bokeh for portrait shooters, but its hefty build and single-purpose design mean it's not for everyone.
Overview
The Viltrox Pro 75mm f/1.2 is a big, heavy, and incredibly fast portrait lens for Sony shooters. It's built for one thing: throwing backgrounds into a creamy blur with that f/1.2 aperture. Just don't expect it to be a jack-of-all-trades.
Performance
That f/1.2 aperture is the star here, landing in the 96th percentile. It gives you insane subject separation and bokeh that's genuinely beautiful, scoring in the 87th percentile. The autofocus is decent and fast enough for portraits, but it's middle-of-the-pack at the 47th percentile, so don't count on it for pro sports. And with no stabilization, you'll need steady hands or a tripod, especially in lower light.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- The f/1.2 aperture creates absolutely stunning, creamy bokeh. 96th
- It's weather-sealed, so you can shoot in less-than-ideal conditions. 89th
- Autofocus is reliable for portraits and supports eye-AF. 88th
- Build quality feels solid, if a bit heavy.
Cons
- It's a beast at 1275g, so your arm will feel it after a while. 8th
- No image stabilization means you need to manage shutter speed carefully. 21th
- It's a one-trick pony, with very low scores for macro and versatility.
- Optical performance is just okay, ranking in the bottom third.

Value & Pricing
At around $580, this lens is a lot of specialty glass for the money. You're paying for that f/1.2 aperture and weather sealing. If you live for portrait shots with dreamy backgrounds, it's a compelling deal. But if you need a more versatile walk-around lens, this isn't it.
vs Competition
Compared to something like the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 S, you're trading versatility and sharpness for pure aperture power. The Nikon is sharper and more flexible, but it's f/1.8. Against the Fujifilm Viltrox 25mm f/1.7, you're looking at a similar third-party value, but the 75mm f/1.2 is in a different league for bokeh, though much heavier and less versatile. The Meike 55mm f/1.8 is lighter and cheaper, but again, you lose that f/1.2 magic.

Verdict
Buy this if you're a Sony shooter who specializes in portraits and you crave that ultimate shallow depth of field. It's a tool for a specific job. Skip it if you need a lightweight, versatile, all-purpose lens or if you shoot a lot of macro.
