Dell 14" Pro Rugged 14 Black Review
The Dell Pro Rugged 14 is built like a tank, but its performance is stuck in the mud. It's a niche tool for extreme environments, not a daily driver for most people.
Overview
The Dell Pro Rugged 14 is a laptop built for one thing: surviving the real world. It's got a 1100-nit touchscreen you can read in direct sunlight, and it's sealed up tight against dust and spills. But you're paying a premium for that toughness, and the specs inside tell a different story.
Performance
The Intel 135U CPU lands in the 39th percentile, so don't expect blazing speed. It's fine for office work and web browsing, but it'll struggle with heavy multitasking. The integrated Intel graphics put gaming performance in the 16th percentile, so forget about modern games. The bright spots are the screen and ports, which score in the 71st and 85th percentiles, respectively. The 53Wh battery is small, so you'll need the charger close by.

Value & Pricing
At over $3000, the value proposition is brutal. You're paying a massive premium for the rugged chassis and bright screen. The core components—the CPU, RAM, and storage—all rank below the 50th percentile. For this price, you expect top-tier performance, not compromises.
Price History
vs Competition
This isn't competing with a MacBook Pro or a Legion gaming laptop on power. Those machines will run circles around it. The real competition is other rugged laptops, or a standard business ultrabook like the ASUS Zenbook Duo paired with a protective case. The Zenbook offers a dual-screen setup and better performance for less money, but it won't survive a jobsite. You have to really need that MIL-STD toughness to justify this cost.

Verdict
Buy this only if your laptop lives a hard life on a construction site, in a warehouse, or in a field. For everyone else—students, office workers, casual users—the performance and price make zero sense. Get a more powerful standard laptop and be careful with your coffee.
