Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical for Canon International Version Review
The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 offers useful features, but its below-average optics and autofocus make it a tough sell against modern primes.
Overview
This Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is a bit of a mixed bag. It's a zoom lens with a constant f/2.8 aperture, which is great for low light and blurry backgrounds, and it's got built-in stabilization. But it's an older model, and it shows in some key areas.
Just a heads up, this specific version is meant for sale outside the US. That means you might get adapters or manuals that don't work here, and the warranty could be a hassle. It's something to think about before you buy.
Performance
The stabilization is solid, landing in the 87th percentile. That's a real win for handheld shooting. But the autofocus is just average, and the optical quality is below average. The bokeh and aperture performance are in the bottom 10%, so don't expect super creamy backgrounds or amazing low-light chops from the f/2.8 alone. It's fine for general use, but it's not a star performer.

Value & Pricing
At around $526, it's not cheap for what you get. You're paying for the f/2.8 and stabilization combo. The problem is, the lens itself isn't that sharp, and the autofocus is mediocre. For that price, you can find newer or sharper options, even if they're primes instead of zooms. It's hard to call this a great value.
vs Competition
Compared to primes like the Viltrox 35mm F1.7 or the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 S, this Tamron gives you zoom versatility. But those primes will destroy it in sharpness, autofocus speed, and bokeh quality, especially for portraits where this lens scores terribly. Against a travel zoom like the Panasonic 14-140mm, you lose a huge focal range but gain a brighter aperture. Honestly, unless you absolutely need a stabilized f/2.8 zoom on a tight budget, there are better choices.

Verdict
Buy this only if you're on a strict budget and you need a stabilized, constant-aperture zoom for general photography or video on a Canon EF mount. For almost everyone else, especially portrait shooters, look at a sharp prime instead. The optical weaknesses are real.
