MSI Modern 15 F1MG-008US 15.6" Full HD Review

The MSI Modern 15 is a basic workhorse laptop. It's got a 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM, which is a solid starting point for everyday office and student tasks. It's also pretty light at 1.69kg, so it won't be a burden in your backpack. Just don't expect it to do anything fancy. This is a machine for getting standard work done, and that's about it.

The Intel 150U CPU lands in the 34th percentile, which tells you everything. It's fine for web browsing, documents, and maybe some light photo editing. The integrated Intel Graphics are predictably weak, scoring a 51st percentile, so gaming is a non-starter. The 1TB SSD is the real highlight here, sitting in the 65th percentile for storage, so you get plenty of fast space for your files.

At $949, it's a tough sell. You're paying for a lot of storage and a professional OS, but the core performance components are mediocre. For this price, you can find competitors with much better screens and faster processors. It only makes sense if you absolutely need that 1TB SSD right out of the box and don't care about anything else.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 is in a different league for business reliability and likely has a better screen. The ASUS Zenbook Duo offers wild dual-screen versatility for creators. Even against MSI's own Vector 16 gaming laptop, this Modern 15 looks like a toy. If you're just browsing and typing, a cheaper Chromebook or older MacBook Air might serve you better for less money.

Buy this only if your checklist is: 1) Must have 1TB of storage, 2) Must run Windows 11 Pro, and 3) Everything else is negotiable. It's a decent fit for a student or office worker who needs simple, portable file storage, but most people should look for a more balanced machine.
