MSI Prestige 16 AI EVO 16" Review

The MSI Prestige 16 AI EVO is a solid, well-built laptop that gets a lot right, but there's one glaring problem you can't ignore: the storage. It's in the 2nd percentile, which is basically a deal-breaker out of the box. You're getting a great 16-inch screen, a surprisingly capable Intel Arc GPU, and a massive 99Wh battery, all wrapped in a thin 1.5kg chassis. But that storage score means you'll be upgrading the SSD almost immediately, which adds cost and hassle to what should be a premium experience.

The performance story is a mixed bag, but the Intel Arc Graphics are the real surprise here. With 16GB of VRAM, it punches way above typical integrated graphics, landing in the 59th percentile. That's enough for light photo editing and even some older games, which is impressive. The Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU is decent, sitting in the 69th percentile, so it'll handle daily multitasking and development work just fine. Just don't expect to game on it—the 19.7/100 gaming score tells you everything you need to know.

At $950, this is a tricky call. The core hardware—screen, CPU, GPU, RAM, battery—is fantastic for the price. But the cripplingly small, slow storage tank's the value. You have to factor in the cost and effort of a new SSD immediately. If you're comfortable doing that upgrade, it becomes a good deal. If not, look elsewhere.

This sits in a weird spot. It's not a gaming laptop like the MSI Vector 16 or Gigabyte AORUS, and it's not a pure creative beast like the MacBook Pro M4. Its closest competitor is the ASUS Zenbook Duo, which offers more innovation with its dual-screen design for similar productivity. If you need raw CPU power for development, a base model MacBook Pro or a Lenovo Legion (in a quiet mode) might serve you better. The Prestige 16's main draw is that capable Intel Arc GPU in a thin body, which is unique.

I can only recommend the MSI Prestige 16 AI EVO if you're a tinkerer. You need to be willing to crack it open on day one and install a proper SSD. If that sounds like a hassle, skip it. There are more complete packages out there. But if you don't mind the upgrade and want a sleek, large-screen laptop with better-than-expected graphics for light creative work, this is a unique find at $950.
