Xiaomi 11.2" Pad 7 Ai Review

The Xiaomi Pad 7's beautiful screen is completely undermined by its paltry 256GB of non-expandable storage. For $385, you can do much better.

Overview

The Xiaomi Pad 7 is a screen-first tablet with a massive, glaring flaw. That 11.2-inch 3.2K 144Hz display is absolutely gorgeous, landing in the 90th percentile for screen quality. It's the main reason you'd buy this thing. But you need to know one thing upfront: it only has 8GB of RAM and a paltry 256GB of storage with no SD card slot. That storage score is in the 1st percentile, which is a deal-breaker for anyone who wants to keep more than a handful of apps and videos on their device.

Performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, the tablet feels fast and smooth for everyday tasks. The CPU and GPU both sit in the 78th percentile, which is solid for the price. It handles streaming and light gaming without a hitch. One customer review mentioned having to turn off the auto-refresh rate to stop it from slowing down, which is a weird quirk, but otherwise, the performance is exactly what you'd expect from the chip. It's not going to blow your mind, but it won't hold you back either.

Value & Pricing

At $385, it's a tough sell. You're paying for that premium screen, but you're getting bargain-bin storage and middling battery life. If the screen is your absolute top priority and you live in the cloud, maybe. For everyone else, the compromises are too big for the price.

€370

vs Competition

Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+, you lose the premium software support, S-Pen integration, and likely better long-term performance. The Samsung will cost more, but it's a more complete package. The Apple iPad Pro is in another league entirely for productivity and ecosystem, but it's also triple the price. The real question is whether you'd be better off with a last-gen Samsung or even a Lenovo tablet that might offer more RAM or storage for similar money. This Xiaomi wins on raw screen specs but loses on practically everything else that makes a tablet useful long-term.

Verdict

I can't recommend the Xiaomi Pad 7 for most people. That incredible screen is shackled to a storage configuration from 2018. Unless you are buying this tablet solely as a portable Netflix machine and you're disciplined about managing storage, you will regret the purchase within a year. For the same money, you can find competitors that offer a more balanced experience, even if their screens aren't quite as sharp.
