Viltrox AF 50mm f/1.4 FE Review
The Viltrox 50mm f/1.4 delivers pro-level bokeh and sharpness for half the price of a Sony GM. Just be ready for its hefty size and so-so autofocus.
Overview
The Viltrox AF 50mm f/1.4 FE is a big, bright prime lens for Sony shooters. It's built for one thing: getting that classic, creamy background blur on full-frame cameras. It's not subtle, and it's not light, but it promises serious optical performance for the price.
Performance
The optics are the star here. With bokeh in the 94th percentile and sharpness in the 87th, this lens delivers beautiful, soft backgrounds and crisp subjects. The autofocus is decent but not class-leading, landing in the 47th percentile. It's quiet, but don't expect Sony GM-level speed or tracking. And at 816 grams, it's a hefty piece of glass to carry around.

Value & Pricing
At around $549, this lens offers a lot of optical quality for your money. You're getting near-top-tier bokeh and sharpness at about half the price of a Sony GM lens. The trade-offs are the weight, the so-so autofocus, and the lack of weather sealing. If pure image quality is your main goal, it's a strong value.
vs Competition
Compared to the Sony 50mm f/1.4 GM, you save a ton of cash but lose out on lightning-fast AF, stabilization, and weather sealing. The Meike 55mm f/1.8 is lighter and cheaper, but its f/1.8 aperture and optical scores can't match the Viltrox's f/1.4 brilliance. Against Viltrox's own 35mm f/1.7, this 50mm is heavier and less versatile for travel or video, but it's the clear winner for portrait shooters who want that dreamy look.

Verdict
Buy this if you're a portrait or low-light shooter on a budget who values image quality above all else. The weight and autofocus are real compromises, but the pictures you get are genuinely special. Skip it if you need a lightweight travel lens or rely on fast, reliable autofocus for action.
