Le Sony WH-1000XM4 excelle dans l'ANC et la qualité sonore, avec un son riche et compatible LDAC. Son confort est juste moyen et son autonomie dépassée par certains concurrents. À partir de 224 €, c'est une affaire en or pour les amoureux du silence.
Aperçu
Le Sony WH-1000XM4, c'est un peu le casque qu'on ne présente plus. Depuis sa sortie, il trône en haut des classements de réduction de bruit active, et pour cause : son ANC est tout simplement parmi les meilleurs qu'on ait jamais testés, avec des résultats dans le 98e percentile de notre base. Si vous êtes un navetteur quotidien, un télétravailleur qui veut s'isoler dans un open space, ou juste quelqu'un qui apprécie le silence absolu pour écouter de la musique, ce casque a de sérieux atouts à faire valoir.
Mais attention, ce n'est pas un produit parfait. À force de le porter pendant des heures, on se rend compte que son confort, lui, reste assez moyen, pile dans la moyenne du marché. Sony a certes peaufiné l'ergonomie, mais les oreillettes peuvent fatiguer après deux ou trois heures, et la pression sur la tête n'est pas négligeable. C'est un peu le talon d'Achille de ce casque, surtout quand la concurrence propose des alternatives plus douces.
Ce qui rend le XM4 si intéressant, c'est son rapport qualité-prix une fois qu'on chasse les bonnes affaires. Son prix varie énormément selon les boutiques, de 224 € à 430 €. À ce tarif le plus bas, vous tenez un casque qui boxe clairement au-dessus de sa catégorie pour l'ANC et la qualité sonore. Le hic, c'est que si vous payez le prix fort, vous pourriez vous tourner vers des modèles plus récents ou mieux équilibrés. Bref, le XM4 est une valeur sûre, mais pas à n'importe quel prix.
Performances
Sous le capot, le XM4 embarque un transducteur dynamique de 40 mm qui délivre une réponse en fréquence de 4 Hz à 40 kHz et accepte le Hi-Res Audio, notamment via le codec LDAC. Dans nos écoutes, le son est riche, détaillé, avec des basses bien présentes sans devenir brouillon. C'est un profil plutôt flatteur, qui plaira à 90 % des utilisateurs. La scène sonore est correcte pour un casque fermé, mais ne rivalise pas avec des modèles ouverts dédiés. Notre base le classe dans les meilleurs du marché pour la qualité audio (97e percentile), et croyez-moi, ça s'entend.
La réduction de bruit active est, sans surprise, la star du show. Elle écrase les bruits de moteur, de climatiseur et de conversations de fond avec une efficacité bluffante. Même en comparant avec des concurrents plus récents, le XM4 reste une référence. Le mode transparence est pratique, même s'il sonne un peu plus artificiel que chez Bose. La connectivité Bluetooth 5.0 est impeccable : multipoint fiable, portée solide, et aucun décrochage intempestif lors de nos tests. Les micros (5 au total) assurent des appels intelligibles, bien au-dessus de la moyenne, mais ils peinent un peu en environnement très bruyant, rien de rédhibitoire.

Avec un écart de prix de plus de 200 € selon les revendeurs, le XM4 peut être une affaire en or ou un achat à regretter. À 224 €, c'est l'un des meilleurs rapports qualité-prix du marché pour l'ANC, surtout quand on voit ce que proposent Bose ou Bowers & Wilkins à des tarifs bien supérieurs. Si vous le trouvez autour de 250 €, foncez. En revanche, à 430 €, c'est beaucoup trop cher pour un modèle sorti il y a quelques années, sachant qu'un Sennheiser Momentum 4 avec une batterie doublée se déniche souvent sous les 300 €. Face à la concurrence
Face au Bose QuietComfort Ultra, le XM4 tient la dragée haute pour l'ANC, mais Bose reprend l'avantage sur le confort, avec une répartition du poids plus douce et des coussinets plus moelleux. Le Bose rajoute aussi un mode audio spatial, absent ici. Le Sennheiser Momentum 4, lui, mise sur une autonomie monstrueuse de 60 heures et une signature sonore un peu plus neutre, mais son ANC est légèrement moins performant que le Sony. Enfin, le Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 joue dans une autre cour côté qualité de fabrication, avec des matériaux plus cossus, et un son plus aéré, mais il coûte plus cher et manque parfois de mordant en basses.
Pour les technophiles à petit budget, le JBL Live 770NC ou le Technics EAH-A800 peuvent représenter des alternatives intéressantes avec une autonomie supérieure et un confort amélioré, mais ils ne font pas le poids côté ANC. Le XM4 se situe pile dans la moyenne, et des alternatives comme le Bose QuietComfort Ultra ou le Technics EAH-A800 seront bien plus reposantes pour des séances de plus de 3 heures. Les studios professionnels devraient également l'éviter : son score de seulement 77,4 % en usage studio trahit une signature sonore trop colorée et un manque de neutralité pour le mixage. Enfin, si vous avez absolument besoin de la meilleure autonomie du marché, ce n'est pas le bon choix. Avec 30 heures d'ANC, il fait pâle figure face aux 60 heures du Sennheiser Momentum 4.
Verdict
Si vous cherchez le nec plus ultra de la réduction de bruit sans vous ruiner, le Sony WH-1000XM4 est un choix imparable à condition de le trouver autour de 250 €. Pour les trajets quotidiens en transports en commun ou le travail dans un bureau bruyant, il n'a pas son pareil. Gardez juste en tête que le confort n'est que moyen, donc pour des sessions marathon de plus de 4 heures, vos oreilles risquent de manifester quelques signes de fatigue.
Pour les audiophiles exigeants, le XM4 offre un son dynamique et percutant, mais les puristes préféreront peut-être le B&W Px7 S3 pour sa clarté. Et si l'autonomie est votre premier critère, le Sennheiser Momentum 4 l'écrase littéralement. En résumé, le XM4 reste un excellent casque ANC en 2025, surtout quand il est bien soldé, mais il n'est plus le seul à mériter votre attention.
