MSI Summit MSI Summit A16 AI+ 16.0" Touchscreen Copilot+ PC Review

The MSI Summit A16 AI+ packs a phenomenal Ryzen AI 9 CPU for heavy workloads, but its integrated graphics make it a terrible choice for gaming or creative tasks.

Overview

The MSI Summit A16 AI+ is a weird one. It's a convertible laptop with a killer CPU and a ton of RAM, but it's trying to be everything to everyone and ends up being a bit confused. The one thing you need to know is this: it's a productivity beast for developers and multitaskers, but if you even think about gaming, look elsewhere. That 15.7/100 gaming score isn't a typo.

Performance

That AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 CPU is a monster, landing in the 99th percentile. It chews through code compiles and heavy multitasking without breaking a sweat. What surprised me, though, is how much that incredible CPU is held back by the integrated Radeon 880M graphics. It's fine for video calls and basic tasks, but it's firmly in the bottom 20% for GPUs. The 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD are great, but the overall feel is lopsided.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The Ryzen AI 9 CPU is an absolute workhorse for professional tasks. 99th
  • 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD are a fantastic combo for future-proofing. 83th
  • The 16-inch 165Hz touchscreen is bright, sharp, and great for creative work. 80th
  • The convertible design adds flexibility that most powerful laptops lack. 78th

Cons

  • The integrated Radeon 880M graphics are a major weak point for anything visual. 20th
  • At 2kg, it's not exactly a lightweight, especially for a convertible.
  • The gaming performance is abysmal. Don't even consider it for that.
  • Battery life is just average for the size, thanks to that power-hungry CPU.

Value & Pricing

At around $1328, it's a tough sell. You're paying a premium for a top-tier CPU and a convertible form factor, but you're getting bargain-bin gaming performance. If your work is 100% CPU-bound, it's a decent deal. For anyone else, the value isn't really there.

vs Competition

This puts it in a strange spot. Against a pure productivity machine like the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4, the MacBook is more efficient and has better integrated graphics, but you lose the touchscreen and Windows. Compared to a gaming laptop like the MSI Vector 16 HX at a similar price, the Vector will destroy it in games and creative apps but is a brick that doesn't convert. The Zenbook Duo offers more innovative screen real estate for multitasking. The Summit A16 is stuck in the middle.

Verdict

I can only recommend the MSI Summit A16 AI+ to a very specific user: a developer or data scientist who needs raw CPU power and 32GB of RAM in a convertible package, and who doesn't care at all about graphics performance. For everyone else—creatives, general users, and especially gamers—there are better, more focused options for your money.
