Canon Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens Review
The Canon Rebel T7 is packed with outdated tech that makes it frustrating to use. For the same money, you can get a much better modern camera.
Overview
Look, the Canon Rebel T7 is the camera your well-meaning aunt buys you for Christmas. It's fine. It takes pictures. But if you're actually trying to learn photography or create content in 2024, you can do a lot better for your money. The one thing to know? Its autofocus and burst shooting are dead last compared to everything else out there. It feels like using tech from 2010.
Performance
Let's talk about those rock-bottom rankings. The 9-point autofocus system? It's genuinely bad. Trying to track anything that moves, even a kid on a swing, is a frustrating exercise in missed shots. And the 3 frames-per-second burst speed means you'll never capture the peak action in sports or wildlife. The sensor is decent for still landscapes, but that's about the only thing working in its favor.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- The 24MP sensor is perfectly fine for basic, well-lit photos. 98th
- It's lightweight and easy to carry around. 86th
- The interface is simple for a total beginner. 81th
- Battery life is average, not great, not terrible. 81th
Cons
- The autofocus system is ancient and painfully slow.
- Burst shooting at 3fps is useless for anything but statues.
- No in-body stabilization means shaky video and blurry low-light shots. 3th
- The fixed screen makes shooting from creative angles a hassle. 30th

Value & Pricing
At $579, this is a terrible value. You're paying for the Canon name on a body packed with outdated tech. For the same price or less, you can get mirrorless cameras that run circles around it in every meaningful way.
vs Competition
Forget the high-end competitors like the R6. The real competition is in the budget mirrorless space. The Sony ZV-E10 is built for creators, with way better autofocus, 4K video, and a flip-out screen for vlogging. The Nikon Z30 is another strong choice, offering a more modern experience and better performance for the same price. Both make the T7 feel like a relic.

Verdict
Do not buy the Canon Rebel T7. It's a dinosaur in a mirrorless world. If you're a beginner, save your money and get a used older mirrorless camera, or stretch your budget slightly for a Sony ZV-E10 or Nikon Z30. You'll be infinitely happier with the results and won't outgrow it in a month.
