Nur beim Tragekomfort und der Verarbeitung muss man im Vergleich zu neueren Modellen leichte Abstriche machen.

Die Sony WH-1000XM4 sind mittlerweile so etwas wie der Goldstandard bei Noise Cancelling Kopfhörern, und das nicht ohne Grund. Für wen sind sie also interessant? Pendler, Vielflieger und alle, die in Großraumbüros überleben wollen, werden die adaptive Geräuschunterdrückung lieben. Aber auch Audiophile kommen auf ihre Kosten, denn Sony spendiert den 40-mm-Treibern Unterstützung für LDAC, was auf Android-Geräten fast verlustfreies Streaming erlaubt. Die 30 Stunden Akkulaufzeit sind zwar nicht rekordverdächtig, aber mit der Schnellladefunktion (10 Minuten für 5 Stunden) kommt man locker über den Tag.
Was die XM4 wirklich spannend macht, ist die Kombination aus führender Technik und einem mittlerweile oft reduzierten Preis. Sie liegen im Handel zwischen 224 und 430 Dollar, was eine massive Spanne ist. Durch geschicktes Suchen lassen sich echte Schnäppchen finden, und dann bekommt man ein ANC-Erlebnis, das selbst teurere Modelle alt aussehen lässt. Nur beim Tragekomfort muss man Abstriche machen – aber dazu später mehr.
Leistung
Kommen wir zu den harten Zahlen. In unserer Datenbank liegt die ANC-Leistung der XM4 im 98. Perzentil, also ganz vorne mit dabei. Das merkt man sofort, sobald man sie aufsetzt. Tiefe Frequenzen wie Flugzeugbrummen oder Zuggeräusche werden fast komplett geschluckt, und auch höhere Frequenzen dämpfen sie stärker als die meisten Konkurrenten. Der Transparenzmodus klingt natürlich und lässt sich per Touch schnell aktivieren, wenn man kurz eine Durchsage verstehen muss.
Klanglich sind die XM4 ebenfalls eine Hausnummer. Mit ihrem 40-mm-Treiber und LDAC-Unterstützung liefern sie einen sauberen, ausgewogenen Sound, der nur bei extrem basslastigen Tracks eine leichte Wärme zeigt. Die Auflösung von 4 Hz bis 40 kHz ist für ein Bluetooth-Modell überragend, und die 105 dB Empfindlichkeit reichen locker, um auch in lauten Umgebungen genug Pegel zu haben. Die Mikrofone mit ihren fünf Membranen schlagen sich in Telefonaten solide (87. Perzentil), auch wenn sie in sehr lauten Umgebungen an ihre Grenzen stoßen. Apropos Grenzen: Der Akku ist mit 30 Stunden gut, aber längst nicht mehr Spitze – die Sennheiser Momentum 4 schaffen fast das Doppelte.
