Sirui Sirui Sniper 16mm f/1.2 Autofocus Lens (FUJIFILM Review

The Sirui Sniper 16mm f/1.2 is a weird and wonderful lens. It's an ultra-wide prime with an insanely bright f/1.2 aperture, which is basically unheard of for this focal length. That means you get a 24mm full-frame equivalent view, but with the light-gathering power of a portrait lens. It's built for specific creative shots, not for walking around.

The f/1.2 aperture is the whole story here. It lands in the 96th percentile for aperture, and the bokeh is in the 99th. That's wild for a wide-angle. You can get super shallow depth-of-field on environmental portraits or in tight spaces. But the autofocus is just okay, ranking in the 47th percentile. It's not slow, but it's not snappy for fast action either. And there's no stabilization, so you'll need steady hands or a gimbal for video.

At around $310, this lens is a steal for what it does. You're getting a unique optical tool that does something almost no other lens can. The build is good, and the image potential is huge. Just know you're paying for that one killer feature (the aperture) and accepting compromises elsewhere.

Don't compare this to a standard zoom or even a 35mm prime. It's in its own niche. Against something like the Viltrox 35mm f/1.7, you lose versatility and a more normal focal length, but you gain that insane f/1.2 look and a much wider field of view. Compared to a Fujifilm 23mm f/2, you get way more light and bokeh, but you sacrifice weather sealing, faster AF, and a smaller size. It's a specialty tool versus generalists.

Buy this if you're a Fuji shooter who loves available-light photography, wants crazy shallow depth-of-field on wide shots, or makes atmospheric video. It's perfect for indie filmmakers, creative portraitists, and low-light explorers. Skip it if you need a do-everything travel lens or rely on fast, reliable autofocus.
