The Acer Gateway Chromebook 314 is a basic, no-frills laptop for one thing: getting online. It's cheap, it's light, and it runs Chrome OS, which means you're basically just using a web browser. If that's all you need, it gets the job done. Just don't expect it to do anything else. It's built for checking email, writing docs in Google Drive, and maybe some very light streaming.

Performance is exactly what you'd expect from a $200 Chromebook. The AMD 4500 CPU lands in the 35th percentile, so it's not fast, but it's fine for web tabs. The 4GB of RAM is a serious bottleneck, though, ranking in the 2nd percentile. Open more than a few tabs and things will start to chug. The 64GB of eMMC storage is also painfully small. Gaming is a non-starter, with a GPU score in the 42nd percentile.

Buy this only if your budget is locked at $200 and you need a device strictly for basic web browsing and school documents. It's a last-resort pick for students or as a secondary kitchen laptop. For anyone else, especially if you plan to keep it for more than a year, saving up for a model with more RAM is a much smarter move.
