Lenovo ThinkPad 14" P14s Gen 5 Review
The ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 is a dependable ultraportable with a great CPU, but its battery life and graphics hold it back. It's a tool, not a toy.
Overview
The ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 is a classic business ultraportable that gets the fundamentals right. It's light, built like a tank, and powered by a very capable AMD 8840H processor. This isn't a flashy machine. It's a get-work-done tool for people who need reliability and portability above all else.
Performance
The AMD 8840H CPU is the star here, landing in the 74th percentile. It's plenty fast for office work, coding, and heavy multitasking. The integrated Radeon 780M graphics are fine for basic tasks, but that 18th percentile GPU ranking tells you everything. This is not a gaming or creative workstation. The 52Wh battery is a bit small for the class, so expect to plug in by mid-afternoon.

Value & Pricing
At $1509, it's a solid but not spectacular value. You're paying a premium for the ThinkPad name, the durable build, and the Windows 11 Pro license. The performance is good, but you can find similar speed for less if you're willing to compromise on that classic ThinkPad toughness.
vs Competition
Compared to a 14-inch MacBook Pro, you get Windows, more ports, and a lower price, but you lose out massively on battery life, screen quality, and GPU power. Against something like the ASUS Zenbook Duo, you're trading away innovative dual-screen versatility for pure, no-nonsense reliability. And next to any gaming laptop on the competitor list, like the MSI Vector, the P14s isn't even in the same conversation for graphics performance. It's a different tool for a different job.

Verdict
Buy this if you're a business user, consultant, or student who needs a dependable, lightweight Windows machine that can handle serious CPU work. Don't buy it if you need long battery life, a gorgeous screen, or any kind of graphical horsepower for gaming or design.
