HP EliteBook 14" 8 G1a Review

The HP EliteBook 8 G1a is a Copilot+ PC that's trying to do it all. It's got a killer AMD Ryzen AI 7 PRO 350 chip, a ton of RAM, and a bright 14-inch touchscreen, all packed into a surprisingly light 1.46kg body. On paper, it's a beast for productivity and AI tasks, but that 'business' score of 71.4 tells you there's a catch.

That AMD chip is no joke. It's in the 99th percentile for CPU power, so it'll crush spreadsheets, code compilation, and AI workloads without breaking a sweat. The 32GB of DDR5 RAM is fantastic for heavy multitasking. The GPU is the weak link here, landing in the 55th percentile. The AMD Radeon 860M is fine for light photo editing and older games, but don't expect to max out modern titles. The real red flag is the 27th percentile reliability score, which is a major concern for a machine at this price.

At $2,389, the value proposition is shaky. You're paying for top-tier CPU performance, excellent RAM, and a great screen. But that 27th percentile reliability score is a massive problem. Spending this much on a laptop that might not hold up over time is a tough sell, no matter how fast it is.

Compared to the Apple MacBook Pro 14" with M4 Max, you get more RAM and a touchscreen for less money, but you lose out on insane battery life, a much better GPU, and Apple's legendary build quality. Next to the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, this HP gets crushed in gaming and raw graphics power. The ASUS Zenbook Duo offers way more screen real estate for creative work at a similar price, making the EliteBook's single-screen setup feel a bit basic.

Buy this only if your top priority is raw CPU and AI performance in a portable package, and you're willing to gamble on its long-term reliability. If you need a reliable daily driver for years or care about gaming, look at the MacBook Pro or a Lenovo Legion instead.
